This was booked through Groupon at a really great rate, this trip was definitely value for money when taken into account the places we visited the sights we seen and the activities we did.
Myself and three friends booked this trip and it was a total adventure from beginning to end, Safal is pleasant and very helpful to deal with as are his staff (Pramila, Om & Nabin the driver). We liaised with Safal for 9 months before hand we found Safal to be highly professional and always give updates and relevant information regarding items to pack, itinerary plans etc.
From the start we were given a warm welcome and cannot fault the service we received, the people in Nepal are lovely and cannot do enough for you.
the tour of Kathmandu Valley included visiting the monkey temple, Patan City (Durbar Square), a holy buddhist site which has the biggest stupa in the world and hindu temples and holy sites where we encountered holy men and were shown a holy cremation site.
We then transferred to Chitwan by Car in hindsight I would have definitely chosen to pay for the extra internal flight but on the positive side we drove into the mountains along the Trishuli River which offered some truly beautiful views and a snapshot of Nepali culture and lifestyle.
Chitwan National Park is an amazing place (definitely one for animal lovers) our hotel room was very nice, the food and the staff were friendly and hospitable. We were taken out into the National Park and saw Rhino, Crocodiles, elephants, and lots of exotic species of birds such as: kingfishers, Peacock etc. the river cruise on a dug out boat was awesome it really felt like we were in Jurassic park, our tour host Hari was without doubt brilliant at his job very knowledgeable and a great person.
The elephant ride was very much worth a go, which was nicely topped off with being able to bathe elephants in the River, this was a really special moment.
From Chitwan we were then transferred by Car to Pokhara (again a very long journey and would suggest opting for the internal flight) but then you get to miss out on seeing the Nepali culture and lifestyle in action, our guide from here was Om
Our hotel in Pokhara was really nice the view from our hotel of Fishtail mountain was immense, we were very impressed, we could also see Sarangkot and the paragliders in flight.
The next three days we were told to pack a small bag for a three day trek up to Dhampus Village (Our first Teahouse location) the 800metres worth of steps were quite a task for someone who is slightly unfit (like myself), Om was my saviour that day. he had the patience of a saint helping me up the steps and giving words of assurance and kindness even offering to carry my bag to help, and found me a stick to assist me with the uphill ascent. the tea house was very nice and the striking views of the mountain range surrounded us, the sound of music and people dancing filled the hills, this was a nice vibe here. the next morning we walked up around 250 more steep steps to get to the viewpoint which was really worth it as the sun rose over the mountains which for some was quiet an emotional time.
We then set off on the second leg of our trek to Sarangkot, this was a full day hike easier than the day before, crossing quaint little bridges and still surrounded by the mountain views which were so beautiful. TIP:(walking poles would have been really helpful here) the trek was a full day walking the last leg of the trek was walking through streets and villages, the locals were friendly saying "Namaste" as you walked by. We finally got to Sarangkot and checked into our teahouse, the view from our room was tremendous and the room was nice enough with all amenities needed, we were given the opportunity to take a paragliding flight if we wanted at $80 USD which was very reasonable and included video footage and lots of photos on a disc of the flight. The paragliding staff were very nice Prakash was my tandem paraglider who was very happy, assuring & Professional..
The flight is something everyone should do, it firstly gets you out of a full day of trekking downhill, and is an experience in its self and value for money, you have a good 40 minutes in the air with Fishtail mountain and the range in the back ground (perfect setting for your video & photos).
Landing site in right on the Lake Fewa which is beautiful, the paragliding team then drop you back to your hotel where we were reunited with our bags. in the afternoon we were then taken to visit caves, Davis Fall, and the mountain museum which was very nice after this we had the rest of the day to ourselves to look around the shops in Pokhara and do some shopping and have some food in a restaurant. We then embarked on a 12 hour journey back to Kathmandu, this was very long and we were wishing we had chosen the flight back.
When we returned to Kathmandu we checked into Hotel Thamel where we had stayed for our first three days upon arrival. we had the choice to go to a meal and cultural dance with the staff as a last night send off.
This was the end of our adventure with Success Adventure Treks the next day my partner and I seen our friends off to the airport and we had booked to stay a few extra days in Kathmandu top relax, unwind and do our own thing for a few days, this was a really good choice as it gave us time to reflect, the trip had been so jam packed and busy this was a perfect opportunity to take it all in.
We checked into Hotel Buddha just around the corner from Hotel Thamel which was so nice, we were very impressed with its relaxing garden and the security on the door who greeted us with a smile and salute every time we came through the doors.
Although our trek/ tour had ended Safal was still there to assist us with whatever we needed, my partner had arranged the Everest flight expedition which Safal helped with and he also sorted out our taxi ride to and from the airport. The Everest flight was the icing on the cake and rounded our trip off nicely, we'd have felt slightly hard done by if we'd have come to Nepal and not seen Everest in some form. We returned to Kathmandu, did some shopping haggled for a hemp bag and some cashmere scarves, I wanted to buy lots but we just didn't have the space in our rucksacks.
Overall this time was the best thing I've ever done, happy to title it as the trip of a lifetime.
